Finally decided to revamp the main cast's designs. I've been practicing a lot with watercolours as of late, so I thought to colour this, just for my own amusement ^^
Jack's design was not altered, I must admit. I think I've taken his battle-suit ([link]) far enough in design to be happy about it. Now I'm more or less just exploring different aspects of the same suit. This particular version is the lightest of all different variations, and allows Jack's fighting style be taken to the extreme, since he mostly relies on agility and speed in combat, being rather lithe. Despite carrying such a heavy weapon as a scythe, he does aim to maintain his edge, because Jack is far from being actually physically tenacious.
Ashley got a whole new suit for her wardrobe. I felt her current clothes were far from adequate in a combat situation, so she now carries a dyed leather jacket and leather boots to grant her some protection, and is more armed than usually. I must admit that all in all, Ashley's design has come far from the first sketches I made of her... Still, I'll have her wear different clothes more often than Jack, or at least until the time I'll find her a perfect suit
And finally, July, the deity of time, had her clothes slightly... adjusted. The robe she wears is the same in shape, but I added a few little decorations here and there. Her weaponry remained the same, but the clothes underneath her robe were completely changed to suit her personality more and also to not let the underlaying clothes be too dull in design. Hair colour's the same as it always has been, but after going through some older designs (such as this: [link]) I actually noticed Ashley and July had changed hairtypes. July was the one who originally had waist-long hair, whereas Ashley's hairstyle has remained the same, but there was significantly less length to her hair at that time. And I think I actually prefer it this way
All in all the drawing is simply win xD When will July make her appearance in TLH? Any time soon?
Anyway, back to the point. Mere words cannot describe my jealousy on watercolour skills. If there's any drawing style I can't: It's watercolour. It's such perfection work xD
I'm pleased to hear you think so! And so far I've only planned ahead to chapter two, and I'm not entirely sure if July will make her appearance there. At least she'll not show herself in chapter one, so it'll take at least one and a half years for chapter two to start. Or so I think... So no, not anytime soon We'll see, however. Everything's possible, so far
I hear you, I hear you. When I see properly done watercolours, I'm ever so jealous... Although oil painting is really what I aspire to use, I still admit watercolours have their benefits. I just need to work some more to get to those benefits Nonetheless, I really appreciate the kind feedback!
I do, I do Especially Jack's Jack's pose is awesomely done. Uh-huh. You're gonna keep writing TLH untill you die, aren't you? xD Or, wait, if you're already dead...
Haha yes, oil painting is really fun and something different again. I should give it a chance one... Anyways: No problem
With that, I must agree. Maybe not with the "awesome" part, but I really like Jack's pose, unlike the Ashley's and July's... Jack's pose seems more natural. And... well. What can I say? With the estimated thousand-or-so pages, I counted that finishing TLH will take me more or less twenty years I hope I'll live to see the day I finish it ^^ Annd that's true. So yeah. When one has an eternity, one would be better off using it wisely Glad I'm not doing so ^.^
It is fun, I admit. Oil paint has a different way of mixing together than watercolours, and it can produce quite the effect!
Mhmm... He's just standing there like he does that all day xD Haha great devotion! I'm happy to know that many years in the future, I can keep on reading it
Seeing how many times I've drawn him in such a pose, one would really think standing is all he does Yeah, well... We'll see how long I'm able to carry on with TLH, but I really hope it'll be all the way, right to the end of it And well, yes, there'll be many more thursdays to come, so no worries
I liked the concept art of the characters. It takes creativity to make them look exactly how we want. I especially liked the third... I love long hair and this sense of mystery. xD
Glad you think so! And yes, that is very true. I don't think I'm too happy with Ashley's new outfit, but Jack's and July's outfits are a result of long ( more or less accidental ) planning, so I'm rather happy with them ^.^ I must admit, I too am fond of Jack's hair in this particular picture. I like the way I managed to colour the hair, although it was a pure accident I agree with you there, long hair is absolutely gorgeous Thank you for the kind feedback
Drawing clothes is always a challenge for me. So it's good to have multiple reference pictures to help. I liked the result, I think that combined with the characters. x] And you're welcome!
Indeed, alongside with shadows, clothes and their folds can be quite tricky. I've considered using reference pictures, but... I rarely care enough to actually use them D: I should learn better than that! Using reference pictures really is a good way to learn, I just seem to be denying the obvious Glad you think so!
